인사동 수제비 (Eensahdoeng Soojaebee)

Today, I had my best Korean meal (thus far) at a place called Eensahdoeng Soojaebee. This hidden little place in Eensahdoeng specializes in just a few seafood dishes. Where it lacks in variety, 인사동 수제비 sure makes up for when it comes to taste. My friend TK took me here when we first met back in May. I had been craving it, so we went again today. When friends and family come to visit, I plan to take them here because it’s nothing less then amazing.

Today we had 해물파정 (Haymoolpahjeong) which is a non-sweet pancake made with oyster and leek. Additionally, we had 골뱅이 (goelbangee) which is made of conch shell, squid, various veggies and spices, served with cold noodles. The spices in the 골뱅이 are more vinegary then hot, and made a great combination with the cold noodles on a hot, humid day. The whole meal, including side dishes, only cost about the equivalent of $20.00 USD.

Oh, and for those who may know Korean, yes my Romanization is different than the ones that are official because they are CRAP. Yes, Romanizing Korean words will never be exact, but the official Romanizations don’t even try to make a decent attempt at it. 동 is not pronounced “dong” in English. It’s pronounced most like “doeng.” Okay, I’ll get off my Romanesque soapbox now. Goodnight (or morning) and thanks again TK for showing me this quaint little culinary heaven!
